BIO

Soooo yeah..

I grew up in Auckland New Zealand. My Mum is Maori and my Father is from Niue. I was raised by my grandmother, and in the 70's my Dad formed a Reggae band with his mates.

I met and saw Bob Marley play when I was four.
The first record I ever bought was "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor when I was seven.

The first tape I ever owned was a breakdance music compilation called "Street Beat Vol 2", which featured "Space Cowboy" by the Jonzun Crew and "Cheap Thrills" by Planet Patrol. I was eight.
When I turned 11 I discovered "Raising Hell" by RUN DMC. Thats when I truly fell in love with rap music.

I learned to play guitar at highschool, joined the school orchestra and subsequently joined a blues band at the age of 14 as a rhythm guitarist. We started playing pub's and clubs a year later.
After 3 years of playing guitar, the opportunity to sing lead in a song arose. After that one gig my lead vocal duties increased, to the point where I no longer played guitar at all. Suffice to say, I didn't think my guitar playing was that bad.

After 8years, a slew of singles, countless awards and industry nods, a multi-platinum selling album, and a world tour, I parted ways from the band. And by accident (meaning it was unplanned), and through the help of friend and mentor DJ DLT, and a song we wrote together called "Chains"; I fell into a solo record deal with a major label. I was 22.

Whilst in the band (Supergroove) and after leaving, my love of HipHop and its realms had grown exponentially, in particular; within the art of MC'ing and the art of Turntabilsm. I vigorously threw my self into these two fields, culminating into forming a Crew/Band called Token Village, and gaining DJ residencies in and around the Auckland CBD. It was the 90's. The Golden Era.

After spending 3 months in New York I returned to NZ and wrote and co-produced my first solo album 2b Spacific. Many lessons were learned during that process, lessons that would help me in creating my next 3 albums "Navigator", "Beneath the Radar", and "High-Score". All of which featured the talents of my live band the Kratez, and through the various line up changes over the years, I am still fortunate to still be playing with them today. Aint nothing like playing with a kick ass band.

Its been a minute since Ive put out some solo stuff, and Im blessed to have still been able to gig solidly in NZ and Australia for the last few years without any new material out. But, due to issues relating to this Ive subsequently parted ways with my former record label and Im now venturing out on my own. Getting this site together is one of the facets my team and I are putting in place to help facilitate our NEW BEGINNING. For real though, watch this space.

Currently Im working on a couple of collaborative projects as well, one with my good friend King Kapisi called Hed-Lok, and another project with local hero's Team D called Coconut Lime. Watch this space for those ditties too.

In terms of my ting though, H.I.M, family, culture, music, and travelling. And if you dont know? Im workin on new tunes for MY NEW LABEL. Yup. Soon come fam. Its a lock.

I'll keep yall in the loop right here.

Mean as. Thanks a lot for reading. Hit you with updates soon..

Bless
